About me: I have a Masters of Music in Piano Performance from Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of music. I am also a Licentiate of the Royal School of Music in Piano Performance (LRSM). I have taught at universities and performed all over the world. (see more of my credentials towards the end of this post)

I have taught students from all around the world, including those from the UK, France, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Sri Lanka, India, Japan, Taiwan, China, Macau, and of course the US and Hong Kong. I teach students locally here in Colorado and online worldwide. I love connecting with people from all kinds of culture: I always say (and write in my posts) that music/piano is a tool to connect with others, rather than a means to an end.

My teaching philosophy is simple: I encourage students to try and have fun! It’s okay to make mistakes and have setbacks in our music making journey, but most important of all, we must keep going and keep trying! My specialization is classical music, but I do teach students all kinds of music. I love to teach students about chords, arranging pop music and making their own music!

I have written a few books on piano. I have a systematic program for piano beginners (children/adults). It is an introductory program which I have included every aspect of piano learning including basic music rudiments, music theory, piano playing and technique, sight singing, sight reading, improvising and composing. Performance technique and music reading are highly important skill sets in my opinion and I like to guide my students to develop such skills for lifelong enjoyment of music and piano playing.

Practice is definitely part of the learning process. Without regular practice, one doesn’t improve and actually get to have real fun in the subject. Having self-discipline is what I live by and I encourage students to do the same as well.

Playing on your own is fun but playing with others is different kind of fun! I arrange students of similar level to play together. It’s really great if you have a friend or a sister/brother (or a mom/dad!) that you can enjoy music making together!

I like to encourage students to perform – it’s a great way to share with friends and families the joy and beauty of music. Seeing my students play in public concerts always makes me feel blessed to be their teacher.
